Hoosier Backgammon Club

The Hoosier Backgammon Club provides an opportunity to gather and play with like-minded fans of the game. It’s all about learning and improving skills through tournament play, and making friends along the way.
And there is no commitment of any kind… just come when you can!

When and where do you meet?
We meet every Wednesday at Trader’s Mill Grill & Bar on the northwest side of Indianapolis. The tournament starts at 6:30 pm, but most people arrive a few minutes early. We are easy to find… we’re the ones with all the backgammon boards!

Is there a cost to play?
There is no fee to join the club or to play. Some of us place bets ($10 minimum), but that’s entirely up to you.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?
If you have a backgammon board, bring it along. If not, no worries. We usually have enough boards, timers and scoreboards to go around.

Is this club beginner-friendly?
Yes, absolutely! We have a wide range of skill levels playing each week and everyone is welcome to participate. We are more than happy to help people learn the game!

Do I need to eat at the restaurant to play?
No purchase is necessary. However, the food is delicious and most of us do order drinks and/or food.

What is the format of the tournament?
We usually play a double-elimination tournament. The main bracket has seven-point matches, and the consolation bracket has five-point matches. Initial matches are randomly drawn at 6:30 pm. Depending on the number of players, the championship match could start as late as 10:30 pm.
